3 Good Reasons to Open a Shop Regardless of the Financial Crisis

A glance at the cotton statistics: The Spreadshirt Trend Report, Part 13 Leipzig and Berlin, March 19, 2009: Ideas and opinions are – despite or perhaps as a direct result of the financial crisis – more important than money. This finding stemmed from a recent flash poll “Motivation for Opening a Shop” conducted with 8,000 Spreadshirt shop partners. Asked about their main reason for opening a shop, only about a quarter answered that their motivation was to make a profit. The remaining 75% gave reasons which had nothing to do with money. These results confirm a long-term study from last summer which showed that more than 40% of shop partners do not set commissions in their shops and therefore completely refrain from making profits.
The following reasons for opening a shop were just as important back then as they are now:
1) to realize and spread one’s own ideas (16.7%)2) to enrich one’s own website (14.7%) and3) to strengthen collective identity (12.7%) In the North American market – contrary to it being the birthplace of capitalism – there were just as few partners whose primary reason for opening a shop was to earn money. Almost 35% of those asked saw the distribution of their own or others’ ideas as the main reason to design Spreadshirts and run an on-demand shop online. There are currently more than 500,000 Spreadshirt partner shops for personalised apparel worldwide. Among those are big partners like CNN, Otto or Amnesty International, in addition to the friendly t-shirt designers from next door.
